An article about this footage was posted on UM last year, it was taken as part of the "Ghost Hunters" show and appears to show a strange 'caped' figure moving towards the camera and back again in a peculiarly rapid motion. It was taken in the Pennsylvania Eastern State Pennitentiary.

Since we haven't mentioned this one on Gm yet i thought i'd post it up.
What do you make of the video ?

Ah yes the infamous Pennitentiary footage, there is one thing that worries me about this footage and thats the fact that the "apparition" seems to be wearing white trainers.

It's quite hard to make out anything much about the figure, although it's feet do appear to be white.
I've been trying to think about how this could have been done if it is a deliberate hoax. I was thinking that this may be the same piece of footage played twice, except the second part is in reverse.
The figure moves too quickly to be just someone walking up and walking away again, but what if the person walks up, then the footage is stopped, and then they play the same thing in reverse to make the figure appear to be moving away again.
I tried to determine if the pattern of the dust particles floating around was noticably reversed as the figure walks away again, but they don't seem to be, unless they were added in afterwards.
It's a very strange piece of footage really.

I still am not too sure about this footage, but I love it for the simple fact its creepy as heck, regardless of its authenticity. I too watched the dust particles to see if there are irregular jumps, which would suggest tampering, but I did'nt see any difference either.
Quite eerie!

this video seems tampered....there nothing paranormal about it, with technologies now available' this type of clips can be easily made....

In what way do you feel that the footage has been tampered with ?
Crosis
Dec 17 2005, 09:24 PM
if it was tampered with i don't think it was any further than the films speed. Most people would say that the figure moved to fast to be fake but i think that the film could have been sped up slightly to give the impression of fast movement. As we have no frame of reference for moving dust clouds nobody would know.
Now i am not saying thats what happened as i have been involved in discussions on other forums with taps boss grant and he is adamant that the film has not been tampered with. i have a lot more respect for taps than most paranormal groups as they do a lot of follow ups and test to see if they can recreate phenomena in the location to try to disprove their own evidence, i like that and i wish i had the time to do the same.

it "seem" that way....you need to see it in slow mo saru....doesnt seem all that paranormal....this sort of effects can be 'made' by time framing to match the speed as you can easliy see the video is playing fast look at the orbs(dust)flying around.
take a look at this photo....in color.

Seems like it's in fast forward. The dust particles move very fast?! And as people have mentioned the "figure" moves very fast too.

This video has since caused a huge stir on the Internet - is it for real?
what do u guys think of this video

Thank you very much for sharing that video Heathyr!
We have seen it once a little while ago, in fact, i think its in the multimedia section of this site! You should check some of the comments, I personally found it quite convincing and particuarly horrible.... however, some say its a speed up effect (check the so called 'orbs' and how fast they go...) but it is worth looking at for sure!

I think curiosity would outweigh my fear. When I went on an investigation in an old mental hospital, it was downright scary, but I still went ahead and looked around. I mean really, whats there in the night thats not in the day, except maybe racoons, owls, bats, rats, skunks....

You know all those creepy ghost movies they've been coming out
with where it looks like the ghost is going slow one second and
then suddenly moves very fast and is across the room as you blink?
That's what this kind of reminds me of.
I'd have to see what it was, no matter how scared I may actually be.
Its either going to be a ghost or a dude in sneakers.

Exactly that, and as Mr F. Mulder always exclaims - 'The truth is out there'.
Could you imagine the repercussions of having actual tangible evidence?

It would be massive, the scientific community would be left on its ear from the response, both positive and negative.

It would be the most amazing discovery in the history of modern science, up there with relativity, string theory and quantum mechanics...
I wonder if such proof has ever existed and been destroyed or covered up for it's potential impact on society? I love a good old conspiracy theory!

I have had the chance to view this footage many times. The thing that blows me away is the fact that it moves into the shot and bolts away. Firstly, what ever it is, it not a physical human in anyway, since, as you can see it is very fast, and it can turn around in less than one second and sprint back without really stopping. Lastly: nobody can recreate what the footage is. It is a area that isn't safe for running on, and when the crew tried to recreate it(it was kinda funny to watch them), they came to the conclusion that it was similar, but still not conclusive evidence.

Ya, it can go fifty on good days
Anyway, ever notice how small it is? It seems that its only 3 and a half feet tall. Have a look at the footage that I posted and compare the ghost footage to the footage in which they tried to recreate it, you'll notice there is a difference in height between the two figures.

I seen this when it first aired, and was amazed!
It was supposed to be an area where people who still work there have seen dark images or Shadowpeople if you will.
I too noticed what looked like the bottom of a shoe, but after re-winding it (DVR's are great!) it looks to be just part of all the dust flying around, Also it looks like to me that maybe instead of the figure moving closer to the camera and then away
that maybe its materializing (gets bigger) then dematerializes therefor gets smaller.

exactley theres just no way thats human, thats just too hard to recreate, i think its pretty legit, i like them cuz they dont just go into a place and here a noise and say omg a ghost!!!! nope they debunk everything, in the 3 or so years that show has been on they have only found like maybe 4 credible things to which they cant explain........

Say, did anybody see
the "Most Haunted Live this past Saturday at Pennsylvania Eastern State Penitentiary here in the states?
7 hours of their typical nonsense,
(tap..tap.. tap, was that you, can you do it again followed by screams)
I noticed they even had plywood on the floors in the cell areas so the noises would be louder!LOL!
I think maybe some of the cast are serious, but it seem one or two of the guys Always gets attacked,
and this happens in almost Every Episode!
And on this night
they threw marbles and pebbles into the dark
and asked the spirits to throw them back, And They Did
Most Haunted" is the Professional Wrestling of the paranormal world.
Your probably asking if I dislike it so much why did I watch?
Well it is entertaining and my wife enjoys it so I DVR it for her.
Its just that this show gives skeptics more fuel.

They actually threw the pebbles back? Sweet!
Isn't it kind of odd that they seem to be attacked in every episode? i think thats just a way for people to watch the show.
