Ok i was wondering how to go about collecting the history and newspaper reports for an area and need help so anything you have for researching newspapers, and all other sources is appreciated.

the area is Las Cruces NM

The local library is a start. You can also try city hall, the police dept(sometimes they can tell you if they have recieved strange calls from a location) and of course the internet, you can find out alot about a location on the net.

Agreed, in fact the easiest start would be the library, as you can go through microfische files there of newspaper archives. If you can find a local legend or an event, you should be able to cross-reference the date with the archives. It's a lot of work, but can be very rewarding.
