Hello guys,

I have been looking around at some pictures of shadow ghosts and some people have been saying "oh that could be a thumb or a finger infront of the camera" So while I have been having a duvet day I have been taking some pictures with my thumb and various fingers in front of my camera and I can't seem to be able to create a fully black figure without it looking like a thumb also if I take a picture with the flash on my finger turns bright pink and it looks like a finger.

Now I am only using a camera phone Sony erricson w180i. I am interested to see how many people have actually tried to putting their thumb or fingers infront of the lens and see how much a convincing ghost they can create.

Attached is the most convincing picture I was able to take but even then the colour gradually lightens up at the top to a pinkish/reddish colour.

So the question I put to you guys is:

Have you ever tried this and have you been able to create a pretty convincing thumb ghost?

The reason I ask this is because I have never really seen a proper comparison between someone who believes they have captured a black shadow figure and someones thumb and I would like some kind of bench mark because maybe there are something that is common across "thumb ghosts" that isn't common in the black shadow figures and we can all more confidently say yay or nea to shadow pictures.

You could have fooled me Alisdair.... and this is also proof that you must be carefull with these shadow figures.... they can easily be faked!

yes indeed which is a great shame. I guess you can only believe the pictures you take yourself sad.gif

I myself am skeptical at pictures I see online thinking they are probably faked even though am sure most pictures out there are genuine but because of a bad bunch I don't want to be drawn in and look like a fool!

The greatest problem also is most people can't remember where their fingers / camera strap was when the picture was taken or if their lens is clean or dirty which am sure are all commom causes of strange effects on peoples pictures. Which is why I feel we should have some control pictures which are created on purpose so we can all see common traits of accidental ghost pictures and we can more confidently say "oh that looks more like a finger, camera strap or a bit of dirt on the lens"

hopefully you all understand what I mean?

I know what you mean.... problem is these days there are so many possibilties with Photo-shop & other design & photo-enhanchement programs that almost anything is possible & therefore sometimes it's almost impossible to see if it's fake or not!

I've seen a fake photo of the monster of loch ness somewere on the net... and it's amazing... you can see the texture of the skin of the animal... the maker of the photo explains the whole thing, what he has done etc...
But really.... it looks like the real thing!

I can't say this enough, we must be very carefull with pictures & video's of the unexplanable.... lots of fakes are out there...
But then, maybe the most faked looking thing... could be the real thing!

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Yeah that is the worst problem.. I guess you just have to ensure you make sure you look for any oddities (Copy past errors, strange effects but even thats difficult) and give the picture a chance by looking at it in more detail.

Yeah another problem is there is no protocol to say how ghosts present themselves in photos and really they can appear in anyway they want which gives hoaxers a nice easy time to make a creative ghost sad.gif I guess we all just have to have eagle eyes and always err on the side of catuion...

I guess you can only really trust your own photos which is a shame sad.gif

Yeah honestly I am a bit disappointed with most pictures.. You just can't tell.
You would think that if you were to put pictures up then maybe you have captured something.
For instance the ones I posted.. I have no idea what it is or else I wouldn't need to put it up.
In fact I think they bizarre - but not necessarily paranormal.
But you see pictures that look so good on here and you want them to be real, but you just don't know.
I guess your right about only knowing yours but I wish there was someway to identify whether or not that have been tampered with.

Yeah, I'd say way too many photos that get posted publicly as paranormal are typically either the classic dist/precipitation, etc Orb, hair strand in front of the lens, the thumb apparition, and the camera strap portal or vortex. It really can be quite comical, if not a tad frustrating at times.

I've seen a few photos I believe to be genuine, but far too many that are posted with too much eagerness where th person is trying so hard to show existence of the paranormal that they make a rush to judgement.
