Five of us went out there last night driving around and got out in two places and walked around a little while. Got too creeped out to go farther up the trail, so maybe next time we'll be a little braver.

Its a cool place to just drive around though, lots of twists and turns.

I was just down there a few nights ago as well. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Well, there was some rustling in the bushes it seemed whenever we turned our back to it, but probably just some little animal. Either way, though, we didn't want to stick around to piss it off. We were gunna climb up to the top of the mountain we were hiking, but we could see deer up there staring at us so we decided not to. Reading all this stuff about it is pretty interesting. That stuff plus the current local rumors not listed there would make a good horror movie I think. I'm currently starting a treatment to see how well it would go. Well, first I'm starting with an outline that, if I feel is good enough, will then progress to a treatment. Don't think I have the patience for a script, though. Anyways, I digress. It's cool living near a place like that!

Scary thing about this...I drive on turnbull/skyline and all that area a lot. I've lived in the area for some time, but never heard any of the stories.
The first time I drove there, I got the horrible feeling I was being watched. A couple of times I saw shadows moving on the side of the road where ther was nothing to cast a shadow. I heard a babies cry and felt unbelievably ill. To the point I had to pull over because I had no bags in the car. The scarier part, there was dead silence there. Not even birds chirped...nothing. And I noticed quite a lot of dead squirrels piled on the side of the road. The silence felt peaceful at first...but soon go earie
I started to hear about the stories after I told my friend about what I saw, heard, and felt. She told me I was insane for driving up there by myself and told me why. I semi believed her, but thought that she was exagerating for the most part. Till I started finding proof online.
And yes, there's a lot of cops up there. Every time I drive there, I'm practically escorted down back to the more public streets by a police cruiser. And once, it was about 12 pm, I was driving from Whittier back to my house, and a helicopter came from over the hill with the old rusted water tank. It saw me driving and followed me to the top of the road, I drove back an hour later and there was a cop cruiser blocking the road towards whittier, and I called my friend and she said there was one blocking the bottom where turnbull ends.
Now there's no way you'll get me to drive there. And being of hispanic background, if the KKK really does hold meetings up there, I really wont be driving there anymore.

Hey guys. I too live right by there... funny thing, me and my friends went there last night.
Ok, let me ellaborate on some of the things you have heard.
There is a white supremesist, psuedo neo nazi group there. There is a place called "the swings" and thats where they hang out mostly.
There is a satanic cult. They all live in a small community that is secluded. There are two properties surrounding them and they have been for sale for years and years because no one wants to buy them.
One way to get to their community is through Hells Gates. Now, trust me, DONT GO THERE. Unless you want to die, I wouldnt risk it. Hells gates is off of Avacado terrace and there is a for sale sign against the rock wall. If you look, you can see some bricks and a path dug into the wall... thats hells gates.
Theres another place that is just plane creepy. Ive been by it and from what my friends have told me, its the other property connected to the cult property. It has large black iron gates and also a old for sale sign in front. This is off some old narrow road that name I dont remember. Supposedly there are very large X's arranged in there. Some are painted, some rocks are organised into X's and such. My other friend told me that he had went there, and 3 very large identical dogs came to the gate and so theytook off.
But my friends who told me about the Xs said when they were there, they shined a flashlight into the bush's and saw eyes and took off.
The airplane crash was at the top of the world, where the water tower is
Oh and the witches house is a large foundation of a building at the end of a dirt road... never understood why no one build on it again or what happend. But the whole foundation looks good, and even the mail box (which is built into the foundation) is still there.
The Asylum I still havent found, but I heard that the one i just described was the asylum... but that cant be because what Ive heard about the asylum was that it was a mostly intact building and the only intact things about the whiches house is the foundation as well as some floor tiles in the middle. (The whitches house offers a spectacular view at night though)

The story of it is that in the 60s or somewhere around there a guy took this girl up there to make out with her. She had a boyfriend and I guess he followed them and somehow (i dont get this) hung the guy... but I know the hanging tree is there as a friend of mine saw it...

the story is as follows:
in the late 60's a couple were driving through the canyon to find some seclusion so they could be together, and someone followed them up. There was some kind of malfunction wtih the car, and the boyfriend got out to go find help, and told the girlfriend to wait in the car and not let anyone in except for himself. As the time went on the girlfriend started to get worried, she could hear it start to drizzle and branches hitting the roof of the car. She eventually fell asleep while she was waiting for her boyfriend to return. The following morning she woke up to a cop telling her to get out of the car, and not to look up. Of course she looked up, she saw her boyfriend hanging from the tree... the sound of the rain was his blood dripping onto the car, and the sound of the branches were his feet on the roof.

hello all! turnbull....i went today! i heard all of these cool myths and stories but sadly i found nothing. The first time i went, i was by myself on my bike.( 16 yo, West Covina high school

) So i went up until Avacado and i tied my bike up. Then i walked....and walked...for who knows how many miles. It was quiet and nice, thats cool and all but not what i was looking for. So i asked my friends if they knew about anything, and one said he knew where the asylum was, and how to get to the indian burial ground.(he was lying of course) So i went again with them, and this time we made it to what i think was the top. Where the trail is by skyline. Once again nothing.....no scary stuff, i didnt even find any KKK people! haha, I'm willing to hire some kinda guide $$ someone wanna help? thanks!

This is a really creepy story. I've heard about how burial grounds are often the sites of hauntings as well as old mental hospitals or Asylums. An old mental hospital around 15 miles from where I live has been turned into luxury apartments in recent years- I wonder if many spirits lurk there.

Hey all, I've been mountain biking at Turnbull for well over 10 years. Can someone please give me accurate information on how to find the burial site and the Mental Hospital? In all the years up there, I've had my doubts about being watched by others. With all of the latest things occuring in and around Turnbull, my Thursay night rides have come to an end. I know the trails on the Hacienda Heights and Whittier side and have traveled east along Skyline Trail into Rowland Heights. The most scariest thing I've encountered are the Coyotes that come out at sunset with all of the crying they do just before they go out and look for food.
BTW-Coyotes run wild on the Cow Loop which is on the Whittier side and Deer live on the Hacienda Heights side.

I know this location very well, it looks like you're standing on Turnbull Cyn looking north.
These are mine from over the years. In all honesty, I think the best way to explore Turnbull is on a bike. Gather a large group and ride the canyon. You can do all sorts of different trails that all loop back to where you started. Or, you can trek across the ridge and travel east.
Be aware of the vandalism that does exist on either side of the hill. Don't leave your car parked at Beverly as it turns into Turnbull on the Whittier side and if you start in Hacienda Heights stay away from the end of Orange Grove and 7th Ave, look for a better populated residential area.

Thanks for the great comments on the pictures, they were just taken random with no particular background in reason. Not sure if anyone is from the area? Anyway, Turnbull is once again making the front page with another murder victim. The most recent is the discovery of a missing woman's wallet found on a trail and with a week later the discovery of her body on the side of Turnbull Canyon Rd. She was last seen leaving her swingshift job at Coca Cola in La Habra which is neighboring to TBC.

Turnbull can be a foreboding place, though in the day it is quite normal. I had a friend who claimed he was in a satanic cult and he was very well known in Whittier for his eccentricity (piercinging everywhere, on his face, everywhere). Well, he never quite told me what he was involved with though he said it was very bad evil stuff. He got out of that lifestyle many years ago, but he said there were definitely cults that use the canyon and even the Whittier Narrows area for occassional outings. That was all well and fine, then about six years ago a 17 year old girl was murdered in the canyon - the story is quite astonishing more to follow in a few minutes...

the story is quite astonishing more to follow in a few minutes...
Gloria Glaxiola was a young lady who belonged to the local Agape church. According to her brother, she was evangelizing to some satanists she knew when she disappeared, - she was murdered along the road in turnbull canyon and dragged miles along the winding road. Staked with biblical inscriptions were driven into the ground where she was killed.
The murder remain unsolved, and the church members have since gone up to the canyon to excorsize its evil spirits.
Read the who article for yourself...
http://www.sgvtribune.com/news/ci_4231512It is ironic that the girl was from Baldwin Park, given that the owner of the old Californio land grant, William Workman, that owned what is now Turbull canyon was in a bitter dispute over the land with his rival Elias Baldwin. When William Workman lost his business and land, he committed suicide and Elias Balwind foreclosed on the property. Baldwin went on to aquire much land in the area and is the name behind the city of Baldwin Park.
Anyhow, like most of the hills surrounding large cities, Turnbull can be a place of tragedy; a place of refuge for pot growers, stanists, and White supremists - I stay away at night!

You know, when you read about the satanic ritual of the "black mass" It sounds a lot like the case of Gloria Glaxiola. In the mass noire, a host, ideally a christian priest, is profaned sexually and murdered in a mockery of the Christian mass/host. Could they have carried out that ritual in Turnbull Canyon with that beautiful young lady who must have seemed to them as the perfect host for their demonic pleasure? I googled "Satanism" and "Whittier" and the following book review on Amazon came up from a satanist that lives in Whittier:
Reviewer: Kevin Artinian (Whittier CA) - See all my reviews
When the Satanic Bible came out, it seemed too good to be true. Finally someone was coming up with a religion that at least tried to be practical. Satanism has its share of flaws (some major), but for the most part, The Satanic Bible offers some great ideas on religion, morality, etc. What was especially interesting was the Book of Belial and the Book of Leviathan, which showed some fascinating magick ritual that anyone can practice.
I was rather disappointed in The Satanic Rituals. First off, it's kind of tedious to read through all these rituals, especially when you don't understand the language (Latin, Enochian, German, Klingon, whatever) that they speak. The ideals they represent are for the most part respectable, such as man getting in touch with his animal side, but overall it's kinda boring. On top of it all, There's le messe noir. I don't understand how someone as progressive as LaVey could be smart enough to realize that God is dead, yet he's still so backward as to think that Christ was on God's side! He even talks about Gnostic wisdom, yet doesn't consider the Gnostic idea that Christ was a Satanist (an idea I've sworn by for years). Anyway, this isn't a bad book, but please, don't force yourself to read it unless you are a serious completionist. Have a nice day!

As for turnbull cyn its not really as bad i go up there maybe 3 times a week sure if you go out there at night. it could be kinda freaky .
yeah i heard all these storys before. The mental hospital is up there But its not hiddin like every one thinks its right on the corner of skyline and trunbull cyn rd. I ve been inside, and yes it scared me but when i think back on it its just an old run down place with a huge patio. As for the old "haunted house" its maybe like 2 blocks form the hospital when you get to the end of the road and theres a fire stop and you just walk up a little hill. same thing its scared me but nothing really wired really happen. The hanging tree thats the first big tree coming up the cyn from whitter side when you look up at that tree you see kinda water hoes up there tied up ....

And once in a while some one leaves ballons and flowers right next to the tree. (thats freaky). People say the KKK like hanging out there or nazis, when did run in to these large groups they were nothing skinheads and punks up there having a good time (and they were friendly by the way)...
Yeah turbull cyn is a freaky place at night so if you do go up just stay clam about everyting and have a good time...
