I often think how reliable these two tools are as for proof/evidence of a haunting, I was wondering what others might think if we used these tools in a investigation into a known location that wasn't haunted, or a place that no paranormal happenings have been reported. do you think EMF and EVPs will pick up anything in locations that aren't paranormaly active?

I would think it's quite possible,
just because a place isn't known or has any Ghostly back ground doesn't mean that a spirit may not reside there.
Many believe that spirits/ghosts are All around us much like angels are believed to be if your religion suggest it.
I'v read and heard tales of captured evps as well as photos showing up strange things
in places that had no paranormal history.
People may get responses from a Ouija board in a home that isn't thought to be haunted.
So i believe it possible to catch and evp or emf in locations that isn't believed to be paranormaly active?
But then that maybe would also depend on the energy of a ghost.

Well, EMF fluctuations should never be considered evidence of anything paranormal. Not unless you can couple your readings with something more concrete, like a piece of audio or video. But an EMF spike by itself means nothing. An EMF meter is not a ghost detector.
oh.really?

that's a good idea, but i still think there's a possibility that u can still capture paranormal thingy in your devices.
ghosts are everywhere.
