Full Version: What kind of equipment do you use to investigate?
Ghost Mysteries Discussion Forums > Ghost Mysteries > Investigation and Research
Ghost Investigator
A Sony Nite Shot Hi8 with bulit in IR, but there's only 1 lite, i think, so it doesnt shoot too far in the dark.

So i use this attachment. it has 8 IR lights which add significantly to the shooting distance in the dark which is good, obviously smile.gif

For still pix I use the Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera

and then there's the old voice recorder....Olympus VN-480PC

Of course there is a flashlight, spare batteries, paper/pens, that kind of stuff, but i dont need to show that wink2.gif

So, what do you use when you're out and about?
Fantailmoon
just my senses at the moment but hopefully will be getting some equipment to document more. ha ha
Ghost Investigator
we have a psychic on our team, well, empath may be more appropriate...a couple of them actually....they are great people and their senses often help us know where to look smile.gif
Ghost P.A.R.T.I.
Its a advantage to have a medium on the team. Like Ghost P.A.R.T.I. We have the capability to literaly communicate with the spirits. Great asset. yes.gif

Yeah, the ladies on the team i was working with were definitely a great help in the investigations.

Another commonly used piece of equipment is an EMF meter, some believe that an anomalous spike on the meter can indicate the presence of something paranormal.

A laser thermometer is also something used on investigations for finding cold spots.
Sir JGP
I am using the following at the moment.

Sony Camcorder with nightvision.
Canon EOS 400D camera, flashgun when required and tripod.
Toshiba laptop wit various Audio & Picture software pacages for analysing sound & Pics
Olympus VN-4100 PC voice recorder
Cell-Sensor EMF Meter
Infrared Thermometer
Beam barrier Alarms
Torch
Ghost Investigator
JGP...how are the beam barrier alarms working for you?

As ghosts are presumably energy and not solid, I wouldnt think they would be effective. Have you found them useful?

As the old great, Harry Price and Peter Underwood used to do, its not always the paranormal you have to look for. Having equipment like this could show up evidence of hoaxing by very real people smile.gif

I have used them in a few places where they have been set off, the difficulty is when you get there there is nothing to see
so you have no idea what set them off. I guess the best method of using them is to set a camcorder up pointing at them
so when they do go off you can see if there is anything there. the few times I have used the camcorder with them they have
not gone off, but I hope one day they will.

It is interesting when they do go off as once I was the only person in the building so no person could have triggered them
I could see no animal and they had not been moved. I have used them at home as a trial and they sit there happy for hours
without going off on their own so I know they work ok.

You really need the camcorder and the beams working together in my opinion.

Ghost Investigator
Both of you have good points.

Yeah, i was thinking a cam pointed at them would help...thanks! smile.gif

please let us know if you get something cool

will do, although I have no investigations planned at the moment, next one I
have for sure is late july.

Not much going on at the moment although I am trying to locate a house in
Coventry where I have learnt 2 people were murdered in the early 1900's .

If I can identify which house it was for sure I will speak to the people living there
see if anything interesting happens in the house.
Ghost Investigator
Very cool. Even the town sounds haunted...haha...Coventry...mysterious wink2.gif

I need to come to the UK and go on some ghost hunts...got a spare room for me?? laugh.gif

Coventry is rather good for ghosts hunts, Coventry dates back to 1043 and
has a very colourful history. It was bombed to near destruction on the night of
november the 14th 1940 by the German Luftwaffe.

It has a lot of history and a lot of reported paranormal history. I am lucky in that where
I live there are a lot of old places around Birmingham, Coventry, Nottingham ETC

Planty of people reporting ghost for me to investigate thumbsup.gif

You should check out Nuneaton and Bedworth too mate, they seem to be hotspots as well.

*sigh* I do miss Coventry. crying.gif

My friends recently went on a vigil at Warwick Castle, so I assume that it is something they are offering now (for a fee, obviously) might be a nice idea to go check that out too yes.gif
Ghost Investigator
I've done some reading/research on Warwick Castle and yes...they do offer ghost tours. I'm not sure about allowing ghost hunters in but that may be new like you said. Or the group wrangled a deal, which would be MOST cool.

I feel some strange attachment to Warwick Castle...someday I HAVE to visit there. It's "calling my name" so to speak.

Warwick Castle is an amazing place and i make a point of every time i go to the UK i head to strathford to visit but please be warned it is EXTREMELY touristy. The ghost walks involve going up into a tower with spooky lighting and people jumping out at you. Like a real life ghost train.

I'm bloody brilliant fun but i wouldn't say its the best place in the world to go ghost hunting. Well unless your brave enough to spend the night in the hole in the dungeon (i know i wrote plancette before but my brain was in LA LA land)!

But back on topic... Can anyone recommend any good video/image analysis software? If there any designed for ghost hunting particularly something which allows you to zoom into a part of the film?
