The town was once considered to be the state capitol of California. It had over 3,000 people and was a huge mining hub. Even though the town burned down twice, the people rebuilt. Today only 104 residents remain. The hotel, named after St. George to protect against the Fire Demon, has never burned since it's name was changed.
