Odds are your city or town is haunted.

Just about every city has some supposedly haunted mansion, cemetery or lunatic asylum ("if you listen carefully to the wind on moonless nights, you can hear the screams of the insane…"). Most cities, in fact, have at least one company offering tours of their spookiest places.

Ghost tourism has boomed over the past decade, propelled by the public's interest in the mysterious and supernatural. There are hundreds of ghost tours offered across the country, from Hollywood ("Come see Haunted Hollywood and ghosts of the stars!") to New England ("Visit Boston's infamous haunted locales!").

Some places have more historical lore to draw upon than others. Salem, Massachusetts, for example, exploits its infamous witch trials of the 1690s, while tourists, goths, wannabe vampires, and Anne Rice fans flock to New Orleans, Louisiana, with its reputation for mysticism and voodoo...

Odds? Sadly I wish it was Odds and not a fact, People get killed in this city Horribly Everyday, in many cases mutilated, but I get what you're saying, when I was in texas I lived in such a peaceful town, yet stories could be heard from friends... but, I never heard of ghostly tourists or the like.

I live in a small village and even this area has a very well known reputation, i dont know if you would have heard of it, it is called Pluckley and has a very strong history of hauntings, this is in England , it is a very eerie place. crying.gif
There was one story of a traveller killed while passing through but this would have been ancient way back in history

Then again, fantailmoon, England's quite haunted!

I went to Pluckley many years ago, there's about a dozen or so ghosts in the area isn't there? I remember the story of the teacher who hung himself in the woods, and its said that sometimes you can catch a glimpse of his body swinging from the tree, and hear the creak of the bough under his weight.

A very beautiful, but eerie village.

Have you ventured to Prestbury in Gloucestershire?

I can tell you from my own experience that 'ghost tourism' is a growing industry of sorts. My wife and I do a lot of traveling to various historical sites throughout the United States and more and more of them highlight their paranormal aspects. Now we have been doing this for several years and there was a time when a bed and breakfast or a hotel would try to play down any paranormal reports about their property. They assumed, at that time, that such stories could potentially drive away business.

Now we are finding more places that actively report on paranormal activity at their locations! Some even offer 'ghost tours' or 'mystery tours' of their establishments. The fact that they usually charge a small fee for these tours probably adds some incentive to the whole thing. I know of one such place that happily offers the tours but won't allow a formal investigation of any sort. It would seem that they don't want anybody proving that all the alleged paranormal phenomena can be debunked!

The only place I know of in my town really is the Resin House, and supposedly my house. Obviously, the latter is my bigger interest. I intend to use the blog as a place to post my accounts in my own home...

In Plumerville, there is a pear orchard that I visited late one night that is supposedly haunted too...

However, the only place I know of in my state that offers tours would be The Crescent Hotel, which was featured on Ghost Hunters once.

Yea the fascination for the paranormal is growing at an insane pace...
