Noise in attic
Submitted by Larry Elliot
In the summer of 2008, I was living in a house near my university in new jersey. It was me and just a few of my friends staying there and late at night we would hear noise from the attic. The house was set up in a way that the attic was only accessible through the back stairwell. We assumed that it was nothing more than the central air conditioning system. The noises persisted so we abandoned using the central air conditioning system. Despite our best attempts the noise continued. We never dared to go up there at night because of the sheer horror that was the attic at night. The attic comprised of two windows and a very old couch in the back left corner towards the far side. Even during the day it was just bearable at best because the light would come in in such a way that a stream of light would illuminate the attic as if we were walking into a 1960s movie.
On an August Night, huddled in my bed I couldn\'t take these near violent thuds anymore so I mustered up enough courage to make my way up the staircase with a single flashlight as the noises were occurring. I turned to my right upon reaching the attic level and my light illuminated upon an empty room, the noises stopped but it was clear that someone was there because the dust was in the air as if someone ran out of the attic.
I alerted the landlord and he once again assured us that it was nothing.
I moved out, I told the landlord that I deny to stay in a house that makes noises.
