Some excellent pictures, Sunking, thanks for sharing them. the fog looks great! it would'nt be hard to let your imagination run away with you out there by the looks of things! :(

I agree with Gigan on the brilliant photos. The fog really adds to the creepiness of the place. The photo showing the tree looks especially creepy, the tree seems to have a weird kind of effect on the spooky nature of the fog.

Thanks for the great comments on the pictures, they were just taken random with no particular background in reason. Not sure if anyone is from the area? Anyway, Turnbull is once again making the front page with another murder victim. The most recent is the discovery of a missing woman's wallet found on a trail and with a week later the discovery of her body on the side of Turnbull Canyon Rd. She was last seen leaving her swingshift job at Coca Cola in La Habra which is neighboring to TBC.

I'm canceling my Thursday night rides until daylite savings, it's getting weird and I don't think I'll be riding by myself anymore upon reading this article.

Turnbull can be a foreboding place, though in the day it is quite normal. I had a friend who claimed he was in a satanic cult and he was very well known in Whittier for his eccentricity (piercinging everywhere, on his face, everywhere). Well, he never quite told me what he was involved with though he said it was very bad evil stuff. He got out of that lifestyle many years ago, but he said there were definitely cults that use the canyon and even the Whittier Narrows area for occassional outings. That was all well and fine, then about six years ago a 17 year old girl was murdered in the canyon - the story is quite astonishing more to follow in a few minutes...

the story is quite astonishing more to follow in a few minutes...

Gloria Glaxiola was a young lady who belonged to the local Agape church. According to her brother, she was evangelizing to some satanists she knew when she disappeared, - she was murdered along the road in turnbull canyon and dragged miles along the winding road. Staked with biblical inscriptions were driven into the ground where she was killed.

The murder remain unsolved, and the church members have since gone up to the canyon to excorsize its evil spirits.

Read the who article for yourself... http://www.sgvtribun...news/ci_4231512

It is ironic that the girl was from Baldwin Park, given that the owner of the old Californio land grant, William Workman, that owned what is now Turbull canyon was in a bitter dispute over the land with his rival Elias Baldwin. When William Workman lost his business and land, he committed suicide and Elias Balwind foreclosed on the property. Baldwin went on to aquire much land in the area and is the name behind the city of Baldwin Park.

Anyhow, like most of the hills surrounding large cities, Turnbull can be a place of tragedy; a place of refuge for pot growers, stanists, and White supremists - I stay away at night!

Oh but there is more...

A charred body was just found in the canyon, the remains still buring...

You know, when you read about the satanic ritual of the "black mass" It sounds a lot like the case of Gloria Glaxiola. In the mass noire, a host, ideally a christian priest, is profaned sexually and murdered in a mockery of the Christian mass/host. Could they have carried out that ritual in Turnbull Canyon with that beautiful young lady who must have seemed to them as the perfect host for their demonic pleasure? I googled "Satanism" and "Whittier" and the following book review on Amazon came up from a satanist that lives in Whittier:

Reviewer: Kevin Artinian (Whittier CA) - See all my reviews
When the Satanic Bible came out, it seemed too good to be true. Finally someone was coming up with a religion that at least tried to be practical. Satanism has its share of flaws (some major), but for the most part, The Satanic Bible offers some great ideas on religion, morality, etc. What was especially interesting was the Book of Belial and the Book of Leviathan, which showed some fascinating magick ritual that anyone can practice.
I was rather disappointed in The Satanic Rituals. First off, it's kind of tedious to read through all these rituals, especially when you don't understand the language (Latin, Enochian, German, Klingon, whatever) that they speak. The ideals they represent are for the most part respectable, such as man getting in touch with his animal side, but overall it's kinda boring. On top of it all, There's le messe noir. I don't understand how someone as progressive as LaVey could be smart enough to realize that God is dead, yet he's still so backward as to think that Christ was on God's side! He even talks about Gnostic wisdom, yet doesn't consider the Gnostic idea that Christ was a Satanist (an idea I've sworn by for years). Anyway, this isn't a bad book, but please, don't force yourself to read it unless you are a serious completionist. Have a nice day!

As for turnbull cyn its not really as bad i go up there maybe 3 times a week sure if you go out there at night. it could be kinda freaky .

yeah i heard all these storys before. The mental hospital is up there But its not hiddin like every one thinks its right on the corner of skyline and trunbull cyn rd. I ve been inside, and yes it scared me but when i think back on it its just an old run down place with a huge patio. As for the old "haunted house" its maybe like 2 blocks form the hospital when you get to the end of the road and theres a fire stop and you just walk up a little hill. same thing its scared me but nothing really wired really happen. The hanging tree thats the first big tree coming up the cyn from whitter side when you look up at that tree you see kinda water hoes up there tied up ....

And once in a while some one leaves ballons and flowers right next to the tree. (thats freaky). People say the KKK like hanging out there or nazis, when did run in to these large groups they were nothing skinheads and punks up there having a good time (and they were friendly by the way)...

Yeah turbull cyn is a freaky place at night so if you do go up just stay clam about everyting and have a good time...

I have been to turnbull many times beacuse me and my bf live really close to it..and i love it!!! There are so many stories about it and i find it interesting..I have seen the road where the old insane Asylum used to be but they have the fence closed.....and the kkk stories are true because my bf and his brother where riding bikes and they saw 2 men walking down from a house wearing white robes...the men looked at them and kept walking...(my bf and his bro are white btw) if u want to see the house its well once u get to skyline turn right and go down the street.. the house is big and white on a hill...if front of the house there are anchor chains near the driveway...if you are going on the road that leads to whittier u can see it too...just look to the right and its the big white house on the top of the hill.....once in a while if your lucky u will see men come out. Satanist go up there too..i should know i knew some of them...during the day turnbull is fine..at night sometimes things happen...but the again there are also bike riders that ride at night through switchbacks and dont see anything weird..there are also caves where blacks where killed. and satanist hang there .but they are far from the trails..... i know alot about turnbull so if u have questions lets me know.....
I LOVE TURBULL CANYON!!!!! :)

i actually just moved to hacienda like 3 yrs ago and i live on turnbull, and all this stuff is kinda making me want to check out these spots, but also kinda don't cause i'm brazilian and of course the KKK guy's are gonna think i'm mexican and hang my ass but of course they'll just hang me cause of my skin color

I know this location very well, it looks like you're standing on Turnbull Cyn looking north.

These are mine from over the years. In all honesty, I think the best way to explore Turnbull is on a bike. Gather a large group and ride the canyon. You can do all sorts of different trails that all loop back to where you started. Or, you can trek across the ridge and travel east.

Be aware of the vandalism that does exist on either side of the hill. Don't leave your car parked at Beverly as it turns into Turnbull on the Whittier side and if you start in Hacienda Heights stay away from the end of Orange Grove and 7th Ave, look for a better populated residential area.

i walked the trail like once and left my car on the side of the road, i was kinda skeptic to leave it there but i left it there and went walking, kinda scary cause at any moment anyone can just pop out and harm you, luckly i carry a pretty big knife but still scary and wouldn't do it alone again.

I was there actually just tonight after looking at different websites for new sights too see. I'm a bit of a novice investigator but hell I try :D . I do have digital shots of TurnBull Canyon but nothing really major other then a lot of orbs...some orbs are as white as powder which is rare since they are always translucent. I can post them if anyone is interested, I would just post em but I know most investigators aren't really convinced with orbs. They can be mistaken for dust particles but to me the ones that are visible and not so translucent have me thinking maybe I got something.

BTW I'm surprised there are so many locals posting here that's definitely awesome hell we should all gather info and see if we can plan something for this site.

hello all! turnbull....i went today! i heard all of these cool myths and stories but sadly i found nothing. The first time i went, i was by myself on my bike.( 16 yo, West Covina high school :tu: ) So i went up until Avacado and i tied my bike up. Then i walked....and walked...for who knows how many miles. It was quiet and nice, thats cool and all but not what i was looking for. So i asked my friends if they knew about anything, and one said he knew where the asylum was, and how to get to the indian burial ground.(he was lying of course) So i went again with them, and this time we made it to what i think was the top. Where the trail is by skyline. Once again nothing.....no scary stuff, i didnt even find any KKK people! haha, I'm willing to hire some kinda guide $$ someone wanna help? thanks!

I created an account just because I read this. If u r serious about hiring a guide U got one. I know everything there is to know about turnbull, including its history and how it was founded. I can take u throughout it and show u some pretty cool and scary stuff. If ure looking to hike through and look then daytime is best but if u rlly wanna trip then let me show u at nighttime. ull see the true side of turnbull. Dun listen to all theses people cause most these stories r false. Email me if u rlly wanna know the truth.

haha lmfao that was a daily place for me and the homies to go..never saw nothing wired or heard anything wired...them kkk *****s aint doing nothing either...when we'd go we see taggers mobbing like crazy not to mention i have parked up there for hours a few times at night.

and about being escorted by a cop? never have i been escorted by a cop or pulled over by a cop up there and i have seen plenty of cops up there only reason for it is to stop taggers...i was parked on the side of the road...with a girl and we seen a cop car pass by going up...then we were like coo he passed...but then he came back again i thought for sure he was gonna stop by my car and sucked cos i had brought some liquor we didnt drink it but still i was only 20 at the time so anyways we finished up and left!

you want real scary stories about the place...a girl was raped and tied to a car and got drag all the way up there...people get caught by other gangs for tagging and get shot...guys race their cars up there and sometimes crash (lucky if that) or go right off the cliff

theres real reasons to be scared about that place but there nothing spooky about it...like i said that was a daily place for me to be. :tu:
