Thanks for the great comments on the pictures, they were just taken random with no particular background in reason. Not sure if anyone is from the area? Anyway, Turnbull is once again making the front page with another murder victim. The most recent is the discovery of a missing woman's wallet found on a trail and with a week later the discovery of her body on the side of Turnbull Canyon Rd. She was last seen leaving her swingshift job at Coca Cola in La Habra which is neighboring to TBC.
I'm canceling my Thursday night rides until daylite savings, it's getting weird and I don't think I'll be riding by myself anymore upon reading this article.

Gloria Glaxiola was a young lady who belonged to the local Agape church. According to her brother, she was evangelizing to some satanists she knew when she disappeared, - she was murdered along the road in turnbull canyon and dragged miles along the winding road. Staked with biblical inscriptions were driven into the ground where she was killed.
The murder remain unsolved, and the church members have since gone up to the canyon to excorsize its evil spirits.

It is ironic that the girl was from Baldwin Park, given that the owner of the old Californio land grant, William Workman, that owned what is now Turbull canyon was in a bitter dispute over the land with his rival Elias Baldwin. When William Workman lost his business and land, he committed suicide and Elias Balwind foreclosed on the property. Baldwin went on to aquire much land in the area and is the name behind the city of Baldwin Park.
Anyhow, like most of the hills surrounding large cities, Turnbull can be a place of tragedy; a place of refuge for pot growers, stanists, and White supremists - I stay away at night!

Reviewer: Kevin Artinian (Whittier CA) - See all my reviews
When the Satanic Bible came out, it seemed too good to be true. Finally someone was coming up with a religion that at least tried to be practical. Satanism has its share of flaws (some major), but for the most part, The Satanic Bible offers some great ideas on religion, morality, etc. What was especially interesting was the Book of Belial and the Book of Leviathan, which showed some fascinating magick ritual that anyone can practice.
I was rather disappointed in The Satanic Rituals. First off, it's kind of tedious to read through all these rituals, especially when you don't understand the language (Latin, Enochian, German, Klingon, whatever) that they speak. The ideals they represent are for the most part respectable, such as man getting in touch with his animal side, but overall it's kinda boring. On top of it all, There's le messe noir. I don't understand how someone as progressive as LaVey could be smart enough to realize that God is dead, yet he's still so backward as to think that Christ was on God's side! He even talks about Gnostic wisdom, yet doesn't consider the Gnostic idea that Christ was a Satanist (an idea I've sworn by for years). Anyway, this isn't a bad book, but please, don't force yourself to read it unless you are a serious completionist. Have a nice day!

yeah i heard all these storys before. The mental hospital is up there But its not hiddin like every one thinks its right on the corner of skyline and trunbull cyn rd. I ve been inside, and yes it scared me but when i think back on it its just an old run down place with a huge patio. As for the old "haunted house" its maybe like 2 blocks form the hospital when you get to the end of the road and theres a fire stop and you just walk up a little hill. same thing its scared me but nothing really wired really happen. The hanging tree thats the first big tree coming up the cyn from whitter side when you look up at that tree you see kinda water hoes up there tied up ....

These are mine from over the years. In all honesty, I think the best way to explore Turnbull is on a bike. Gather a large group and ride the canyon. You can do all sorts of different trails that all loop back to where you started. Or, you can trek across the ridge and travel east.
Be aware of the vandalism that does exist on either side of the hill. Don't leave your car parked at Beverly as it turns into Turnbull on the Whittier side and if you start in Hacienda Heights stay away from the end of Orange Grove and 7th Ave, look for a better populated residential area.
i walked the trail like once and left my car on the side of the road, i was kinda skeptic to leave it there but i left it there and went walking, kinda scary cause at any moment anyone can just pop out and harm you, luckly i carry a pretty big knife but still scary and wouldn't do it alone again.

and about being escorted by a cop? never have i been escorted by a cop or pulled over by a cop up there and i have seen plenty of cops up there only reason for it is to stop taggers...i was parked on the side of the road...with a girl and we seen a cop car pass by going up...then we were like coo he passed...but then he came back again i thought for sure he was gonna stop by my car and sucked cos i had brought some liquor we didnt drink it but still i was only 20 at the time so anyways we finished up and left!
you want real scary stories about the place...a girl was raped and tied to a car and got drag all the way up there...people get caught by other gangs for tagging and get shot...guys race their cars up there and sometimes crash (lucky if that) or go right off the cliff
theres real reasons to be scared about that place but there nothing spooky about it...like i said that was a daily place for me to be.
