Proper Permission for Types of Investigation?

Ok, being quite new to this whole investigation side of the paranormal, I would love to hear guidelines for carrying out a proper investigation in certain situations. I know this might sound abit old hat and all, but I would like to cover every possible angle..

-For instance, what procedures would one going about clearing channels to investigate cemeteries? Is simply going into the cemetery and going about your investigation a wrong approach?

Always get proper permission before entering a haunted location or proceeding into restricted areas, for your own safety if for no other reason. Always be mindful of Federal, state and local laws, and conduct yourself within those limits. If everyone who calls themself a paranormal investigator would abide by these guidelines, many more haunted locations will open their doors to you.

I totally agree with you darkknight. I have frequently come across posting where people have illegally accessed sites that are suspected hauntings. What they fail to realize is that in doing so, the give all paranormal investigators a bad rap. Always...ALWAYS, get permission, preferably in writing! :tu:

Well what if they deny granting you access. Then what do you recommend doing.

Then you find somewhere else to go.

But if you ask them why they wont give you access then you may be able to allay any fears the people might have. Usually its beceause they dont understand what we want to do in a location. We have a code of conduct and a pack of info about what we will be doing that we post or email to the people in charge, and ask for a face to face meeting.

I Agree with Crosis...

You are better to respect someones permission or denial of access to a site... If they say no then build up a good raport and get to know them, calm their fears and explain fully what you are doing and precautions you are taking...

Then you can always ask again... If at first you don't suceed...

Well said.

There could be nothing worse (or more rude) than to go ahead and trespass when you have been denied access. With a little politeness, you would probably find most people would be ok. It may be even a good idea to ask the people themselves if they know any history of the haunting/location. They may even like the idea of becoming involved! :geek:

Thats a valid point... sometimes its good to get help from people who probably really know about the place, and perhaps points of historic interest that you might be researching... besides you want to have fun... not be running around hiding behind things trying to catch ghosts... :geek:

The other thing is we have had luck by getting people who work at these locations to approach the owners instead of you doing it, we go to places like the mind body and spirit fairs, you meet loads of people who have locations they want investigating. you just sit behind a stall with your kit on it and drink coffee all day.
