There’s nothing like the enlightened musings of a German philosopher to soothe jangled nerves inside the bowels of the Ohio State Reformatory/Mansfield Reformatory, a shuttered prison in Mansfield, Ohio, made famous as the film setting of 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption.

I was there along with four members of Lake Erie Paranormal, a group of current and retired local law enforcement officers who investigate spectral activity in homes, businesses, and buildings. Along with several others, we were a part of an overnight paranormal “ghost hunt,” if you will, at this supposedly quite haunted facility, which officially closed Dec. 31, 1990
