Back seat driver

Back seat driver

Back seat driver.A true classic, this photograph was taken in 1959 by Mabel Chinnery. She had gone to visit her mother's grave, she took a picture of the grave itself and then a picture of her husband waiting for her in the car. When the picture was developed, her mother could be clearly seen sitting in the back of the car. This image is considered to be one of the most convincing and chilling ghost photographs ever.

nice pic, but, it just looks too real

This is my favorite "ghost picture of all time. Even while in college we studied this picture. Here is what we have come up with: While it could be a double exposure it is cannie how the eyes glow. A faked picture in this day was unheard of, people just did not have the knowledge. We did come with the possibility of a modern hoax, since it was only released about 15 years ago. What we did conclude was grainy film a hung tye and reflections. . "Eyes" notice the shape color and density of the "eyes". now go directly to the left of that to the back window and you will find two more exactly alike the tthe eyes. This is merely grazeing of the picture (flakeing).. Face: The side of the face is merely highlighted grain on dark background, and the mind places order to chaos and forms the outline of a face. If you can inlarge this picture enough with out loosing resolution then you will see that there is not a nose just the side of the face and the eyes. Yes even a shadow that make the mouth( we think that is the back door). Clothes: Notice the man was at a funeral and his top button was un buttoned, we beleive that he had hung his tye on the back of the seat or on the coat hanger the back. Leaving us with the look of clotheing.

Very nice analysis carpenter It puzzles me when people say things like 'her mother can be seen in the back of the car' whatever it is it doesnt strike me instantly as female especially the clothing and why would a woman take a photograph of her husband in the car on the day of a funeral, especially smiling so happily. Im English and taking pictures at a funeral would be the height of discourtesy and I assume in the time period that this photograph would be taken it is indeed strange for the man to be so casually dressed. The 'glowing eyes' remind me of a photograph of somone with glasses for some reason. To me it looks a either a 'fake' or a misconception similar to when a child sees the bogeyman in his closet but it is just his clothes fallen in a certain manner.

.Apologies I think carpenters post and his talk of funerals distracted me from what the actual opening post said  The woman was visiting a grave not a funeral but indeed a strange time to take a photograph all the same.
